Updates and patch notes

Quick answer

Latest patch: 1.0.5 (Sep 28, 2026) — Lightweight rod buff, Luck adjustable from the Diary centre, improved Large Seafood Stir-fry recipes, sellable sea urchins and a shop opening notice.

SCREENSIDE FISHER launched on 21 September 2026 and has been patched steadily since. Every official announcement so far, in one place, newest first. Dates follow the developer's own announcements, localised by Steam in your store — a one-day drift between regions is normal.

Patch 1.0.5 — 28 September 2026

The biggest quality-of-life patch so far:

  • Lightweight Small Fishing Rod buffed — base power increased, making the early rod genuinely better.
  • Luck is now adjustable. The patch notes name the problem directly: with Luck too high relative to the rod's performance, fish could become hard to catch. Pressing the centre of the Diary now opens the Luck level so it can be set down. See the rods and Luck page for how to use this.
  • Large Seafood Stir-fry recipes improved — the community's most notorious recipe wall got easier. Details on the cooking page.
  • Sea urchins sellable in the shop window — previously only useful for music exchange.
  • Shop transition notice — the first time a shop opens, the game now shows a notice so you do not miss it.

Patch 1.0.4 — 25 September 2026

  • Window resizing option added back (it had been removed in 1.0.2 — this is the better version).
  • Chinese mackerel name fixed in the Chinese localisation.

Patch 1.0.3 — 25 September 2026

  • Shop conversion and achievement linkage fixed — some achievement progress tied to shops was not registering correctly before this.

Patch 1.0.2 — 23 September 2026

  • Image-resolution and text-scaling fixes on high-DPI displays.
  • The settings window-size option (v1) removed — superseded by 1.0.4's resizing.
  • Minor bug fixes.

Companion Falls for You — 24 September 2026

SCREENSIDE FISHER joined Companion Falls for You, Steam's seasonal desktop-companion event — a showcase of games designed to run in the corner of your screen. The developer's announcement reminds everyone that the game is completely free to play, which makes it the cheapest thing in that event by a wide margin.

Launch timeline

  • 17 September 2026 — the developer announced the release date was slipping from 17 September: the Steam build review took longer than expected. The game had already been beta-tested and was "fully playable without any major issues"; the delay was strictly the review queue. The target was pushed to "within September".
  • 21 September 2026 — released, free to play, to Very Positive reviews.

Open community reports (as of 30 September 2026)

  • Aquarium always-visible — a player request to keep the fish tank open independently of the settings window. No developer response yet.
  • ⊠⊠ name rendering on Chinese-language clients (see the customisation page for the workaround).
  • Hub/UI "closing" quirks — isolated reports about the game window and Steam's running state. If you hit anything reproducible, the Steam discussions are where the developer reads.

Check back on this page after each patch — the achievements page percentages also shift with every balance change, and both are refreshed together.
